
WAEC GCE Islamic Studies Syllabus 2025/2026
The 2025/2026 WAEC GCE Islamic Studies syllabus focuses on Qur’anic studies, Hadith, Tawhid and Fiqh, Islamic history, and moral teachings. Candidates are assessed through two papers: multiple-choice and essay-based questions.
This syllabus is designed for candidates preparing for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for Private Candidates (GCE). It aims to test candidates’ understanding of Islamic teachings, historical developments, and their application to personal and societal life.
Scheme of Examination
- Paper 1: Objectives
- 50 multiple-choice questions
- Duration: 1 hour
- Marks: 40
- Paper 2: Essay
- Divided into four sections: Qur’an, Hadith, Tawhid and Fiqh, Islamic History
- Candidates must answer four questions: one from each section
- Duration: 2 hours

- Shirk and its consequences
- Pillars of Islam and Iman
- Islamic jurisprudence (Fiqh): sources, rules of worship, transactions, marriage, inheritance
- Cleanliness, prayer, fasting, zakat, hajj
Section D: Islamic History and Civilization
- Life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW): birth, prophethood, migration, battles
- Caliphate system: Khulafā’ al-Rāshidūn
- Spread of Islam in West Africa
- Contributions of Islamic scholars
- Islamic organizations and their roles
